My name is Dr. Deidre A Corbin, licensed Occupational Therapist with a certified specialty in Home Modifications. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, from a pair of passionate and hard-working Caribbean parents, with a family of medical background. I received my Doctorate degree in 2019 from Gannon University in Ruskin, FL. Prior to that, I received my B.A degree in Exercise Science, and minor in psychology from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL. I’ve been a practicing OT going on 3 years; traveling to various states working in the Skilled Nursing setting, and more recently, managing a SNF Rehab department for the past year.
My inspiration came from working amongst a population of people who didn’t let age or disabilities define them and their future. I recognized a need for their continuous advocacy, not just in facilities, but out in the community as well. Aging in Place is a vastly growing lifestyle, and becoming highly promoted by government agencies, families, and clients themselves. Accessible Home Modifications (AHM) PLLC begat while doing home modifications evaluations as a PRN, and I noticed the lack of OT in this field entirely. Patients reported they have been waiting months if not a year, just to have OT visits. Patients also reported the lack of education about these resources available to them and required lengthy visits just to answer questions about the entire process. This is how my exploration for AHM PLLC. was created.
